Mummkal Ishq: The Lonely Song of One-Sided Love

There’s a pain in loving when the love is not returned — when your heart is an open book, but the other side remains unread. Mummkal ishq — a love that’s uncertain, fragile, and mostly silent. It’s the kind of love that tests trust  and asks the hardest questions without offering answers.

I wrote this piece in  — the ache of waiting, the sting of doubt, and the hunger for something real. It’s a conversation with love itself, daring it to prove its worth.

Mummkal Ishq Ho Mera,
Toh koi tumse baat kare?
Bhala koi kab tak,
Ek tarfa ishq par etbaar kare?

Kehte ho tum,
Ki etbaar nahin mohabbat par tumko,
Par agar tum chaho,
Main mohabbat par ek purani kitab likh doon —
Jismein har lafz se dard tapakta ho,
Aur har safha mohabbat se bheegta ho.

Mana, ishq agar mummkal na ho,
To dard bhi ek raah ban jaata hai —
Par agar dekho tum,
To ek tarfa ishq sirf ek khula sawaal lagta hai,
Sawaal jiska jawab na mile,
Manzil jo kabhi nazar na aaye.

Woh sawaal, jiska bojh mere dil pe rahta hai,
Aur jawaab, jo tum hi ho —
Phir bhi khud se poochta hoon,
Kya tum mera manzil ho,
Ya bas ek raah ki khoj ho?

Love that isn’t mutual feels like standing at a crossroads with no signs pointing forward. You give, you wait, and you hope — but all you have is a question mark where a heart should be.

Yet, maybe that’s the rawest, most honest kind of love — the one that teaches us not just about others, but about ourselves. About the strength it takes to love without guarantees, to hold on and let go at the same time, to be vulnerable without losing your soul.

So here’s to the lovers who love alone — may your hearts stay fierce, your spirits stay unbroken, and your stories find their own beautiful endings, whether with or without answers.

Have you ever loved without receiving? Share your story in the comments — let’s hold space for each other’s hearts.”
